Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Gyanesh Kumar, arrived in Bhubaneswar on Saturday for a three-day official visit to Odisha, combining key administrative engagements with visits to the state’s renowned cultural and heritage landmarks.

According to official sources, the CEC landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport earlier in the day and proceeded to Puri, where he is scheduled to offer prayers at the Shree Jagannath Temple. He will later visit the Konark Sun Temple, marking the conclusion of his itinerary for the first day.

Cultural and Heritage Visits Planned

As part of his Odisha tour, Gyanesh Kumar will continue his engagements on December 28 with visits to several prominent heritage and cultural sites. These include Raghurajpur heritage village, Dhauli Shanti Stupa, the Khandagiri and Udayagiri hill caves, and the historic Mukteswar Temple in Bhubaneswar.

Officials stated that these visits are part of a planned schedule during the Chief Election Commissioner’s stay in the state.

Key Interaction with Booth-Level Officers

The main administrative engagement of the visit is scheduled for December 29, when the CEC will address booth-level officers (BLOs) at the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) auditorium in Bhubaneswar. The interaction is set to begin at 3:00 pm.

During the programme, Gyanesh Kumar is expected to engage with BLOs, who play a vital role in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections at the grassroots level. The discussion will focus on election preparedness, roles and responsibilities of field-level officials, and strengthening electoral processes.

Following the interaction, the Chief Election Commissioner is scheduled to depart from Bhubaneswar later the same night, concluding his three-day Odisha visit.

Administrative Importance of the Visit

While the visit includes cultural engagements, officials emphasized that the interaction with booth-level officers forms the core administrative purpose of the tour. Such interactions are routinely undertaken by the Election Commission of India to reinforce procedural clarity and operational readiness among election officials.

No separate review meetings with the state election machinery have been officially announced, and no election-related declarations are expected during this visit.
