In a significant push towards modernising urban infrastructure across Odisha, Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra conducted a high-level review meeting on Tuesday to assess the progress of projects under the Mukhyamantri Sahari Bikas Yojana (MSBY).

The meeting, held at Kharavela Bhavan, was attended by Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, Director of Municipal Administration Arindam Dakua, and other senior officials of the Housing & Urban Development Department. Representatives from all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) joined via video conferencing.

During the review, officials reported that out of the ₹1,200 crore allocated for the current financial year, 6,700 projects have been approved, with ₹796 crore already sanctioned for implementation.

Emphasising the government’s commitment to fulfilling the aspirations of urban residents, Dr Mahapatra directed ULBs to expedite project execution and complete all works within the stipulated timelines. “There will be zero tolerance for delays,” he stated, adding that quality cannot be compromised as the scheme aims to transform Odisha’s urban landscape.

The Minister highlighted that all proposals submitted by ULBs have received government approval and financial backing, urging local bodies to prioritise on-ground implementation. He also emphasised the importance of adhering to standard designs and implementing enhanced construction standards.

Principal Secretary Usha Padhee underscored the importance of coordinated efforts and proactive planning to achieve visible progress. She advised ULBs to ensure full utilisation of sanctioned funds within the financial year.

The State Government reaffirmed its dedication to planned, time-bound, and quality-focused urban development through MSBY, ensuring tangible benefits for citizens in the urban areas of Odisha.

Launched earlier this year as part of the ‘Viksit Odisha @ 2036’ vision, MSBY focuses on creating revenue-generating infrastructure, civic amenities, parks, markets, and other facilities to enhance livability and sustainability in cities.
