A gas cylinder explosion caused panic at the Sitakund picnic spot in Baripada, Odisha, on Sunday evening, leaving a balloon seller critically injured. The incident occurred at a time when hundreds of visitors had gathered at the popular tourist location.
According to reports, the explosion took place while the balloon seller was filling gas balloons. The cylinder suddenly burst with a loud blast, sending shockwaves across the area. The impact was so severe that the gas cylinder and the bicycle used by the seller were completely destroyed.
Chaos at the Picnic Site
The sudden explosion created fear and confusion among tourists, with several people rushing to safer areas after hearing the deafening sound. Eyewitnesses said the blast was heard from a considerable distance, momentarily disrupting activities at the picnic spot.
The balloon seller suffered serious head injuries in the incident and collapsed at the site.
Immediate Rescue and Medical Response
Local youths present at Sitakund acted swiftly and rushed the injured man to Baripada Medical College and Hospital in a private vehicle. After initial treatment, doctors referred him to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, due to the critical condition of his injuries.
The injured person has been identified as Seru Singh, a resident of the Sunagadia area of Baripada.
Police Launch Investigation
Police have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the explosion and to check whether safety norms were violated while handling the gas cylinder. Further details are awaited as authorities continue their inquiry.
