The Odisha Police headquarters in Cuttack issued a comprehensive transfer order on Saturday, affecting 56 Inspectors of Police across the state. The move, aimed at addressing vacancy positions, administrative exigencies, individual requests, and broader public service needs, includes numerous modifications and cancellations to a previous November posting directive.

Office Order No. 3633/Pers-I, dated December 20, 2025, was approved by the Police Establishment Board during a meeting the same day. All affected officers have been instructed to be relieved immediately, with districts and establishments required to report joining and relief dates promptly.

The reshuffle touches a wide array of postings, with significant shifts to sensitive wings like Vigilance and the Special Branch, alongside redistributions to district police units and commissionerates. Several transfers from an earlier order (O.O. No. 3483/Pers-I, dated November 19, 2025) have been altered or put on hold, reflecting ongoing adjustments to operational demands.

Key Highlights of the Transfers

Among the most notable postings to anti-corruption and intelligence roles:

  • Vigilance Division: Chinmay Ranjan Pany (from Jagatsinghpur), Dipti Ranjan Ojha (from Jagatsinghpur), Laxmikanta Pradhan (from Keonjhar), Suprava Nayak (from Angul), and Arundhati Parida (from Mayurbhanj) have been assigned to Vigilance, bolstering the state’s graft-busting efforts amid recent high-profile cases.
  • Special Branch: A cluster of officers, including Sasmita Pal (from Dhenkanal), Ranjeeta Behera (from Kandhamal), Kumari Pranati Nayak (from Berhampur), Swayam Prakash Mohanty (from Police Commissionerate), Priyadarshini Behera (from Police Commissionerate), Pratima Puhan (from Police Commissionerate), and Rasmita Sahoo (from Police Commissionerate), have been redirected here. Many of these modifications reverse or tweak their prior assignments to districts like Bolangir and Nayagarh.

Other significant district-level movements include:

  • Trinath Totapadia (from Rayagada) to Koraput.
  • Sanjay Kumar Sahoo (from Sambalpur) to Bolangir.
  • Chandrakanta Sethi and Saudamini Sethi (both from Dhenkanal) to the Police Commissionerate.
  • Lachmi Paraja (from Rayagada) to Nabarangpur.
  • Dillip Kumar Samal (from Balasore) to Mayurbhanj.
  • Sanjit Kumar Behera (from Police Commissionerate) to Kandhamal.
  • Sibji Prasad Panda (from Nabarangpur) to Rayagada.
  • Sujata Mallick (from Balasore) to Rourkela.

Cancellations and abeyances feature prominently, sparing several officers from immediate relocation. For instance:

  • Ashok Kumar Behera (Rourkela) and Bhaskar Pradhan (Mayurbhanj) had their postings to Jharsuguda and Bhadrak, respectively, canceled.
  • Meenati Kumari Nayak’s (Police Commissionerate) transfer to Nayagarh has been held in abeyance for six months.
  • Multiple officers from the Police Commissionerate, including Niranjan Behera, Niranjan Ojha, Rupesh Kumar Pradhan, Prasanta Kumar Patra, Niranjan Bhoi, Prasant Kumar Sasmal, Jagannath Sahoo, and P.T. Ganesh Sahoo, saw their district assignments scrapped.

Additional shifts involve training institutions and specialized units, such as Gouri Shankar Sethy (from Puri) to PTC Angul and Kandagori Sangna (from PTI Byree) to Malkangiri.

This order comes on the heels of a similar large-scale transfer in November, signaling the Odisha Police’s proactive approach to manpower optimization.

As Odisha grapples with rising challenges in cybersecurity, border security, and corruption probes, such rotations are seen as vital for injecting fresh perspectives.
