Rourkela police arrested Santosh Kumar Sahu for running a fake job racket that duped educated youths of over Rs 39.20 lakh.
Officers seized forged appointment letters from the railway and private companies along with two mobile phones.
Investigators revealed that Sahu promised jobs in central government departments, state offices, public sector undertakings, and private firms. He issued fake appointment letters to lure victims and collected large sums of money. His operations targeted educated youths across the Koraput, Ganjam, and Malkangiri districts.
Sahu lived in Rourkela for nearly a year while continuing his fraudulent activities. He convinced more than ten youths with false promises and extracted money by showing forged documents. Victims filed complaints after realising the scam, leading police to track him down.
Police confirmed that Sahu originally hailed from Jeypore in Koraput district. He had a history of cheating job seekers in multiple districts before shifting base to Rourkela. His arrest followed a series of complaints that highlighted his growing network of deception.
Authorities seized fake appointment letters from the railway department and several companies. They also recovered mobile phones used to communicate with victims. Police are now investigating his connections with other individuals and verifying how many more people lost money in the racket.
