The Odisha Government extends the restriction on social media platforms in Malkangiri district, reinforcing its earlier notifications.
The order bans WhatsApp, Facebook, X, and other platforms until 12:00 P.M. on December 11, 2025.
Shri Satyabrata Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government, Home Department, issues the notification following a request from the Collector and District Magistrate of Malkangiri. The decision comes after successive orders on December 8 and December 9, highlighting the administration’s focus on maintaining law and order.

The notification cites Section 20 of the Telecommunication Act, 2023, along with the Telecommunications (Temporary Suspension of Services) Rules, 2024. Authorities emphasise that the prohibition applies only to public internet and data services. Government networks such as OSWAN, NIC Net, NKN, and essential services, including banking and railways, remain unaffected.
Officials warn that violations will attract strict legal action. The administration underscores the importance of compliance, urging residents to cooperate with the directive. The order aims to prevent misuse of social media during sensitive situations in the district.
