Biju Janata Dal (BJD) President and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led Odisha government, accusing it of completely failing to spend money on public welfare and development activities.
“Sad to say that there is no expenditure being made by the State Government of Odisha for the people of this state and for their development,” Naveen Patnaik said while addressing the media.
The former Chief Minister claimed that the BJD has repeatedly reminded the government about the urgent need to utilise allocated funds for people’s welfare, but all appeals have fallen on deaf ears.
“Time and again this has been brought to the attention of the Odisha Government by the BJD that there must be some expenditure for the development of the people of the state, but they seem to be totally neglectful about this. Everyone is suffering,” he added.
Taking a dig at the ruling dispensation, Patnaik said the crisis is affecting every section of society. “It’s not exclusive to any people, it is everyone that is suffering. It’s like they’re playing on empty vessels, and we all know that empty vessels make a good sound, and that’s what they’re satisfied by,” the BJD supremo remarked.
The sharp criticism comes amid growing concerns over slow utilisation of budgetary allocations in several key departments, with the opposition repeatedly highlighting the issue in the Assembly and outside.
