Hirakud: This season’s first floodwater will be released from Hirakud reservoir into river Mahanadi at around 11 am today, informed Additional Chief Engineer of Hirakud Dam.
According to officials, in the first phase around 7 to 10 gates will be opened. The villagers in low-lying areas and the local residents have been warned not to venture into the river.
The authorities of the reservoir have also urged the officials concerned to take necessary steps to ensure that the river bed, downstream of the Hirakud dam is cleared as a precautionary measure.
