A shocking incident in Koraput district has once again exposed the grim reality of rural infrastructure.
Villagers in Dainichua under Majhiguda panchayat, Baipariguda block, carried a sick girl for four kilometres on a makeshift stretcher due to the absence of a proper road.
The patient, identified as Ratna Hantal (14), is a ninth-grade student at Gumma SSD Girls’ High School in Baipariguda. She had been staying in the hostel for her studies. Recently, she fell ill and received treatment at Baipariguda Medical. Doctors advised her to rest at home for a few days.
However, Ratna’s condition worsened on Tuesday morning. Her hands and legs swelled, and she collapsed at home. Since no vehicle could reach the village, her family tied a plastic chair to bamboo poles and carried her across hilly and rocky terrain for four kilometres to Bausaguda.
At Bausaguda, the family tried to call an ambulance, but poor connectivity made it impossible. Eventually, they managed to transport her to Baipariguda hospital in another vehicle. Doctors are currently treating her.
