Fresh controversy erupted in Puri as senior servitor Gaurahari Pradhan lodged a complaint against social media influencer Shubhankar Mishra at the Singhadwar Police Station on Sunday.

The servitor accused Mishra of spreading misinformation about the Srimandir and Lord Jagannath, sparking widespread criticism across Odisha.

Mishra allegedly claimed that couples in romantic relationships who visit the Srimandir before marriage would not be able to get married. He also stated that the temple was under “Radharani’s curse.” Consequently, these remarks triggered outrage among devotees and drew sharp reactions from temple authorities.

Earlier, the District Collector had announced that appropriate action would follow after a proper inquiry. Building on that, Pradhan filed an FIR demanding strict measures. He argued that Mishra’s statements misrepresented temple traditions and hurt public sentiments. “I have lodged an FIR to take action against Shubhankar Mishra for spreading misinformation about Srimandir. I request the government to intervene and frame special laws so that nobody dares to spread misinformation again,” Pradhan said.

Meanwhile, Puri SP Prateek Singh confirmed that the FIR had been accepted. He stated that a case would be registered and a detailed investigation would follow. “We will collect all audios and videos of his statements, seek legal opinion, and consult the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) before proceeding,” Singh added.

The incident highlights growing concerns about misinformation on social media and its impact on religious sentiments. Moreover, it underscores the need for accountability and responsible communication in matters of faith.
