The President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu graced the Constitution Day celebration at the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan in New Delhi on November 26, 2025.

Speaking on the occasion, the President recalled that in 2015, during the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the government decided to celebrate November 26 annually as Constitution Day. Moreover, she emphasised that the decision has proven meaningful, as the day allows the nation to reaffirm respect for the Constitution and its makers. Through numerous events, especially involving youth, citizens gain awareness of constitutional ideals.

The President underlined that the strong arguments made in the Constituent Assembly for adopting the parliamentary system remain relevant today. Furthermore, she noted that the Indian Parliament, representing public aspirations in the world’s largest democracy, continues to serve as an example for many nations.

Highlighting the soul of the Constitution, she pointed to ideals of social, economic, and political justice, along with liberty, equality, and fraternity. She expressed satisfaction that members of Parliament have worked to actualise these visions. Consequently, India is progressing toward becoming the world’s third-largest economy, with nearly 250 million people lifted out of poverty.

Murmu described the Constitution as a document of national pride and identity. In addition, she stressed that it guides the country forward with a nationalist mindset, moving away from colonial legacies. She cited recent legislations such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, which reflect justice-oriented reforms.

She also praised the growing participation of women voters, noting that women, youth, farmers, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and disadvantaged groups are strengthening democracy from the Panchayat to Parliament. Ultimately, she expressed confidence that under Parliament’s guidance, India will fulfil its resolve to become a developed nation.
