Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again postponed his planned visit to India, citing security concerns following the recent terror attack in New Delhi.
The blast, which occurred two weeks ago and was the deadliest in the capital in more than a decade, claimed at least 15 lives and left dozens injured, according to Israeli media outlet i24NEWS.
Netanyahu, who last visited India in 2018, was scheduled to travel later this year to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The trip has now been deferred, and Israeli officials indicated that a new date may be considered next year, depending on updated security assessments.
This marks the third cancellation by Netanyahu in 2025 alone. He previously called off a planned day-long visit on September 9, citing scheduling challenges due to Israel’s repeat elections on September 17. A similar cancellation occurred before the April elections earlier this year.
In Israel, Netanyahu’s diplomatic outreach — especially his engagements with global leaders — is often viewed as a strategic part of his political narrative. In July, his party displayed campaign banners featuring photographs of Netanyahu with leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Donald Trump, and Russian President Vladimir Putin, projecting him as a statesman with strong international alliances.
Netanyahu’s political strategy has long emphasized his rapport with world leaders and his image as a crucial figure in safeguarding Israel’s national security.
Ties between India and Israel have grown significantly over the past decade. Netanyahu visited India in January 2018, while PM Modi made history in 2017 by becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Israel. Their strong working relationship continues to draw attention in both countries’ media and diplomatic circles.
