Odisha celebrated the state-level birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter Shaheed Laxman Nayak, who remains the pride of the tribal community and a devoted disciple of Mahatma Gandhi.
Nayak, born on November 22, 1899, in Tentuligumma village of the undivided Koraput district (now Malkangiri), inspired generations with his courage, sacrifice, and unwavering patriotism. Consequently, floral tributes and homage ceremonies took place across the state to honour his legacy.
At the Odisha Legislative Assembly near Gate No. 1, Speaker Surama Padhy led the main ceremony by offering garlands at the martyr’s statue. Alongside her, Forest & Environment Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia paid respects with floral tributes. Moreover, senior officials such as Assembly Secretary Satyabrata Raut, Information & Public Relations Deputy Director Sucheta Priyadarshini, and representatives of the Sabari Cultural Parliament joined the gathering to mark the solemn occasion.
In addition, similar programs unfolded at Adivasi Padia in Bhubaneswar and Kalinga Hospital Square. There, departmental officers and cultural leaders honoured the freedom fighter with heartfelt tributes. As a result, the events collectively underscored Nayak’s enduring legacy of sacrifice, valour, and devotion to the motherland.
