The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction will take place in Abu Dhabi between December 14 and 17.
This marks the third consecutive year the auction is being held outside India, following Dubai in 2023 and Jeddah in 2024.
This year’s event will be a mini-auction, and franchises must finalise their player retentions by November 15. The auction is expected to generate significant interest as teams prepare to strengthen their squads for the upcoming season.
Speculation has already begun around a possible blockbuster trade between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Reports suggest CSK is keen on acquiring wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson in exchange for star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Both players are valued at ₹18 crore, making the deal one of the most high-profile discussions ahead of the auction.
However, the Rajasthan Royals have reportedly asked for an additional player as part of the trade to release Samson. CSK’s first preference remains a straight swap, but the five-time champions have not ruled out including another player to finalise the deal.
The auction in Abu Dhabi will once again highlight the global appeal of the IPL. With player retentions closing soon and trade talks heating up, fans eagerly await the drama that unfolds in December.
