The Mukti Pandit Mahasabha has officially declared October 20 as the correct date for celebrating both Diwali and Payashraddha, effectively ending the ongoing debate over festival timing.

During a press meet, the organization clarified that the auspicious period begins at 3:23 PM on October 20. This timing, they explained, aligns with traditional scriptures and astrological calculations. Consequently, devotees can perform rituals with full spiritual merit.

Furthermore, the Mahasabha strongly advised against celebrating Diwali on October 21. Their analysis revealed that Amavasya on that day lasts only 14 minutes, which is insufficient for conducting sacred rituals. They warned that observing Diwali on October 21 would violate scriptural norms.

To reach this conclusion, religious scholars and astrologers thoroughly examined the lunar calendar and consulted ancient texts. As a result, they urged devotees across Odisha and beyond to follow the prescribed timing to preserve spiritual integrity and ritual accuracy.

Meanwhile, the clarification comes at a time when conflicting calendar interpretations have caused widespread confusion. By asserting October 20 as the correct date, the Mahasabha aims to unify devotees and ensure proper observance of the festival of lights.

In addition, the organization emphasized the significance of Payashraddha, which honors ancestors and traditionally precedes Diwali. Performing both rituals on the same day, they noted, creates spiritual harmony and aligns with scriptural guidance.

Therefore, devotees should begin preparations accordingly and avoid any deviation from the announced schedule. The Mahasabha’s guidance is expected to bring clarity, consistency, and unity to this year’s Diwali celebrations.
