Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, Shri R.S. Gopalan, chaired a virtual meeting on October 14 to address misinformation and reinforce voter list accuracy.
The session brought together Deputy CEO Dr. Laxmi Prasad Sahu, Public Relations Officer Saurabh Pradhan, and district-level information officers.
Gopalan stressed the importance of eliminating misleading data from electoral rolls. He highlighted the Election Commission’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible voter is excluded and no ineligible name is added. He called for proactive public awareness campaigns at the grassroots level.
Dr. Sahu presented detailed insights on the ongoing intensive revision process using a PowerPoint briefing. He also shared best practices from Bihar’s election reforms. Officers discussed common misinformation issues such as multiple registrations at one address, missing house numbers, and incorrect booth labels.
The CEO emphasized the need for swift correction and public communication. He encouraged district officers to use social and mass media to share verified updates and counter false narratives. Gopalan praised the Election Commission’s reputation for neutrality and urged officials to uphold its integrity.
The meeting reinforced the urgency of voter list accuracy and the role of district officers in maintaining clean records. Gopalan advised regular press releases and creative outreach to keep citizens informed and engaged.
