Cuttack’s Beloved Dahibara Aloodum on Path to GI Tag Recognition

Efforts Underway to Secure GI Tag for Iconic Dahibara Aludam: Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sophia Firdous

Cuttack: The unique Dahibara Aloodum, which started as a local dish, has become a cultural identity of Cuttack over time. It has occupied a special place in the hearts of food lovers due to its Odia tradition and heavenly taste. The dish, loved by people of all generations in Cuttack, has become an everyday comfort food. In honor of this tradition, March 1 has been designated as Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa, to be celebrated annually.

At the Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa, organized by the Cuttack District Administration at the Silver City Boat Club, Cuttack Municipal Corporation Mayor Subash Chandra Singh remarked that Dahibara Aloodum is the favorite food of every ‘Katakia’. Visitors to Cuttack invariably search for Dahibara Aloodum, which has gained recognition both domestically and internationally.

Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sophia Firdous highlighted Dahibara Aloodum as one of Cuttack’s specialties and praised the traders’ efforts in popularizing this food. She expressed ongoing efforts to secure a GI tag for Dahibara Aloodum.

Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde confirmed that the district administration is striving for global recognition through the GI tag. In his welcome speech, he emphasized that Cuttack Dahibara Aloodum Dibasa aims to further popularize this beloved dish. Anam Charan Patra, Commissioner of Cuttack Municipal Corporation, noted that the fragrance of Dahibara Aloodum fills the soul of Cuttack.

The festival saw various Dahibara Aloodum traders and women from self-help groups of Cuttack opening stalls. A display at the Silver City Boat Club showcased a list of famous Dahibara Aloodum traders, a selfie zone, and information on the food quality of Dahibara Aloodum. Additionally, a web page named was launched, detailing the history, famous spots, and health benefits of Dahibara Aloodum.

During the program, renowned Dahibara traders Trinath and Babula, food blogger Rohit Srivastava, and participating self-help groups were honored. Additional District Collector Shiv Toppo proposed the vote of thanks.

The entire event was successfully organized under the supervision of Nodal Officer of Dahibara Diwas, Additional District Collector Dr. Ipsita Priyadarshini Mishra, along with District Cultural Officer Nalini Kant Sahu, District Information and Public Relations Officer Bhavani Shankar Bhuyan, and other officials and employees of the District Collector’s office. Cultural programs were also performed to mark the occasion.
