Cuttack: Intensifying its crackdown against the illegal drug trade, the Commisionerate Police in Cuttack arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in drug peddling and seized over 1kg of brown sugar.
The accused have been identified as SK Tamir (20), SK Ersat (18), and SK Allaudin (18) of Balasore.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police raided a place in the CDA area of the city leading to the seizure of brown sugar weighing 1.38 kg and the arrest of three pedlars.
“The seizure took place at around 1 PM based upon an intelligence input. When the three-drug peddlers were coming towards CDA Cuttack via Madhusudan Setu with Brown Sugar packets for trade and supply to the local dealers,” an official said.
“On being informed about the incident, SI Abinash Parida with his team proceeded towards Madhusudan Setu, intercepted the vehicle, and arrested three persons. Apart from 1. 038-gram heroin, motorcycle, a car, and four mobile phones and other incriminating materials have been also seized from their possession,” the official added.
In this connection, the police registered a case under sections 21(c)/29 of NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigation into the case is underway.
Worth mentioning, since 2021, Cuttack Urban Police in the special drive against narcotic drugs has seized more than 4 kg brown sugar/ heroin and arrested 27 drug dealers/peddlers.
