The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) launched its ambitious state-level Padayatra today from Suando in Puri District, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Utkalamani Pandit Gopabandhu Das.

The event commenced with senior party leaders paying floral tributes at the Panchasakha Samadhi Peetha, followed by a procession starting from the Sakhigopal Temple and ending at Suando, the revered birthplace of Das.

Approved by BJD President Naveen Patnaik, this month-long public outreach initiative runs from October 9 to November 9, 2025, and will cover every block and urban area in Odisha. Designed to be vigorous and well-organised, the campaign involves grassroots office bearers, elected representatives, active members, and local residents. Each local constituency’s leadership will spearhead the Padayatra in their areas, with district presidents and state-level officials overseeing progress.

The primary goal of the Padayatra is to fortify the party’s ties with the people at the grassroots level. Participants will spotlight the BJD government’s past people-oriented programs and achievements. Additionally, the campaign aims to educate the public on pressing issues, including the current government’s alleged failures in promise fulfillment, rising atrocities against women, deteriorating law and order, threats to democratic institutions, neglect of farmers, youth unemployment, student challenges, inflation, and discrimination against Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, backward classes, and minorities.
