The Cuttack Commissionerate Police, supported by central forces, have launched a thorough investigation into the violent clash that occurred during the Durga idol immersion at Dargha Bazaar on October 3.
Security Measures
Authorities have deployed two ACPs, three IICs, and a large contingent of police personnel to maintain law and order in the area. Additional central paramilitary forces are assisting the local police in conducting area checks and ensuring public safety.
Arrests and Raids
The police had previously arrested six individuals in connection with the clash. On Thursday, six more suspects were taken into custody, with 23 arrests already made post-immersion. Officials expect the number of arrests to rise as the investigation continues.
Details of the Clash
Two groups reportedly clashed during the immersion procession, leading to injuries on both sides. Four civilians and several police officers, including the DCP, were injured. Following the violence, authorities had imposed a 36-hour curfew and a 48-hour internet suspension in Cuttack to prevent further unrest.
