A devastating landslide in Himachal Pradesh’s Bilaspur district has claimed at least 15 lives after a private bus was buried under heavy debris near Ballu Bridge on Tuesday.
The bus, operating on the Marotan–Kalaul route, was struck by a sudden cascade of mud and rocks from a nearby hillside, trapping over 30 passengers.
Bilaspur Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar confirmed the death toll and stated that three individuals have been rescued alive.
Rescue teams from the police, fire department, and disaster management authority are working around the clock to clear the debris and locate survivors.
Visuals from the site show a JCB excavator and local volunteers battling the rubble, with parts of the bus visibly mangled under the weight of the landslide.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep condolences and assured that rescue operations are being conducted on a war footing.
Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri is en route to Bilaspur to oversee the situation.
Authorities continue to monitor the area for further risks as weather conditions remain unstable.
