Heavy rainfall caused by a low-pressure system hit Gajapati District on October 2, triggering landslides and floods across six police zones.
Two villagers, Rajika Sabar and Kartik Sabar, went missing near Mohulsahi, Pekata during a landslide. Rayagada Police and Fire Unit launched a rescue operation with ODRAF joining on October 3.
One person, Trinath Nayak, died in a landslide at Bastriguda under R.Udayagiri PS. Budhisila Ghati and Ghadasala Ghati roads were blocked but cleared by police and fire teams. Mohana PS reported the collapse of Nedibandha Nala bridge on NH-326A. Vehicles were diverted via Chandiput to ensure safe passage. Laxman Mallik drowned in Ludru Nala while rescuing his calf; his body was recovered the next morning.
Adava PS reported a minor landslide at Bachipanka with no casualties. Garabandha PS rescued 22 stranded tourists near Mahendragiri hilltop after a landslide blocked the road. Serango PS cleared roadblocks near Ajayagad and Asura Pahada Nala. The bridge connecting Khajuripada to Nuagada was washed away. Nuagada-Gunupur road collapsed near Shiva Temple; partial clearance restored limited traffic.
