A pregnant woman and her family were tied up and robbed by four unidentified assailants in Biripada village under Soro police station limits late Friday night.
The victim, Rashmita Nayak, was staying in a temporary shelter with her mother Ahalya and two other relatives while their home was undergoing repairs. Around midnight, the robbers forcibly entered the shelter, bound the hands and feet of all family members, and physically assaulted Rashmita when she tried to resist.
The attackers fled with Rs 14,000 in cash and jewelry worth Rs 50,000. Rashmita, despite being pregnant, was reportedly beaten during the ordeal, raising serious concerns about the safety of vulnerable citizens.
On the same night, another burglary occurred at the residence of Chakradhar Behera, who was away in Bengaluru. Cash and valuables were stolen, though the exact amount is yet to be confirmed.
Soro police have registered cases for both incidents and launched an investigation. Locals have expressed fear and frustration over the rising crime rate and urged authorities to take swift and decisive action.
