Odisha Vigilance today apprehended two government officials in separate bribery cases—one in Balasore and another in Sundargarh—both caught red-handed while accepting illegal payments.
🛑 Case 1: ASI Hrushikesh Biswal Arrested in Balasore
Hrushikesh Biswal, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police at Anantapur Outpost under Soro Police Station, was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant to release a motorcycle detained in connection with a road accident on September 7, 2025.
Despite repeated requests, Biswal allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to release the vehicle. When the complainant expressed financial difficulty, the bribe was reduced to Rs 8,000. A trap was laid, and Biswal was caught in the act. The entire bribe amount was recovered from his possession.
Simultaneous searches are being conducted at two of Biswal’s locations to investigate disproportionate assets. A case has been registered under Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 11/2025, U/s 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
🛑 Case 2: Clerk Prithviraj Kamila Arrested in Sundargarh
In another operation, Prithviraj Kamila, Clerk-cum-Cashier at the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation Office, Rukura Irrigation Project, Bonai, Sundargarh district, was nabbed while accepting Rs 7,000 as the second installment of a Rs 20,000 bribe from a tribal land loser.
The bribe was allegedly demanded to process compensation of Rs 2.07 lakhs for acquired land. The complainant had already paid Rs 10,000 but was denied payment until the remaining amount was settled. Upon reporting the matter, Vigilance officials caught Kamila while accepting the balance. The full ₹7,000 was recovered.
Searches are ongoing at four locations linked to Kamila. A case has been registered under Rourkela Vigilance PS Case No. 10/2025, dated September 19, 2025, under the same legal provisions.
