In a deeply disturbing incident that has sparked outrage across Sambalpur, a 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly committing sexual assault and murder of a cow in the Bhalupali area.

According to police sources, the accused, identified as Sunil Nag, a resident of Thakur Niktimal village under Kuchinda police limits, had been working as a tractor driver in the area for the past week. On Wednesday night, he reportedly brought a stray cow to a residential gate, tied it up using a towel, and committed the heinous act. The cow later died due to injuries sustained.

The entire incident was captured on CCTV footage installed outside the house, which helped identify the perpetrator. The house owner, Hiralal Gauda, filed a written complaint at Ainthapali police station, prompting immediate investigation.

Members of animal welfare organization Sevacuze Foundation also approached the police demanding strict action. Based on the complaint and video evidence, police registered a case under Section 325 of the IPC and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.

Sunil Nag was arrested late Thursday night, and further investigation is underway. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation, with locals demanding stronger enforcement of animal protection laws and psychological evaluation of the accused.
