Tuhin Kanta Pandey, a distinguished 1987-batch IAS Officer of the Odisha cadre, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Prior to this appointment, Pandey served as Secretary for the Department of Investment & Public Asset Management (DIPAM) since 24 October 2019, the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE) since 1 August 2024, and the Department of Personnel and Training since 4 November 2024. Both DIPAM and DPE operate under the Ministry of Finance.
Pandey’s extensive career includes significant roles in both the Union Government and the State Government of Odisha. He has held positions such as Joint Secretary in the Planning Commission (now NITI Aayog), Joint Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat, and Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce. Additionally, he has experience working in the Regional Office of the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO).
In Odisha, Pandey served as the administrative head of various departments, including Health, General Administration, Commercial Taxes, Transport, and Finance. He also held leadership positions as Executive Director of the Odisha State Finance Corporation and Managing Director of the Odisha Small Industries Corporation.
Pandey holds a Master’s degree in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and an MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK. His appointment as Union Finance Secretary marks a significant step in his illustrious career, bringing his vast experience and expertise to the helm of the Ministry of Finance.
