Lucknow: At least two cops were placed under suspension today after a 17-year-old boy died on Friday died after being allegedly thrashed by the cops in custody for “violating the ongoing corona curfew” in the state.
The incident was reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district.
A home guard, who was initially suspended, has also been dismissed from service, the police has said in a statement.
“Two constables and a home guard have been suspended with immediate effect in the matter and the entire matter will be probed,” the police added.
According to reports, the boy was reportedly selling vegetables outside his house in Bangarmau town in Unnao, which is about 65 kms from state capital Lucknow. He was allegedly picked up by the cops, taken to the local police station and assaulted badly following which his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the Community Health Centre, where he was declared dead, the boy’s family alleged.
