Odisha is set to join the launch of a transformative healthcare initiative, the *Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan* (Healthy Women, Empowered Families Campaign), on September 17, 2025.

The campaign, aimed at providing comprehensive health screening, nutrition, and wellness services for women and girls of all ages, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district. Running from September 17 to October 2, 2025, this national initiative will be a significant step toward ensuring holistic healthcare for women across the state.

The state-level launch will take place at IDCO Ground, Unit 3, Bhubaneswar, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, alongside Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling and other dignitaries. Simultaneously, a regional launch will be held at Sundargarh Government Medical College, attended by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs. Both events will be connected via video link to the national launch, ensuring a unified kickoff. Over 5,000 women beneficiaries are expected to participate in the state-level program, where they will undergo screenings for tuberculosis (TB), non-communicable diseases (NCDs), anaemia, and cancers, including breast, cervical, and oral cancers. Personalised nutrition and dietary diversity counselling will also be provided based on individual health needs.

The campaign’s core objective is to promote women’s health and nutrition, ensuring the holistic development of women and girls with the belief that “when girls are healthy, educated, and empowered, families thrive.” Aligned with the PMMVY enrollment and National Nutrition Month (starting September 12), the initiative will emphasise nutritious food counselling, menstrual hygiene awareness, reducing oil and sugar consumption, preventing obesity, and promoting iron-rich foods and dietary diversity.

Across Odisha’s 30 districts, the campaign aims to screen women and girls for hypertension, diabetes, cancers (oral, breast, and cervical), anaemia, TB, sickle cell disease, and maternal health issues. Health camps will be organised at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, PHCs, UPHCs, CHCs, UCHCs, and remote villages to ensure widespread access. Special prenatal checkups by experts will be provided for all pregnant women, while unvaccinated girls will be included in routine immunisation programs. Women and girls diagnosed with anaemia will receive free treatment. Additionally, on October 1, 2025, multiple blood donation camps will be organised across the state, coinciding with National Blood Donation Day.

Beneficiaries are advised to bring their Aadhaar card, ABHA ID, or Ayushman card for registration via the MoHFW mobile application. To ensure widespread awareness, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials have been shared with districts. The campaign is being implemented in coordination with the State Health Department, Women and Child Development Department, Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes Development, Minority and Backward Classes Welfare Department, School and Mass Education, and Mission Shakti. In its first phase, women service providers and frontline workers will also be screened, ensuring comprehensive coverage of female government employees in both rural and urban areas.

This historic initiative is expected to strengthen the health status of women and girls in Odisha, contributing meaningfully to the national vision of a developed India through healthy, empowered families.
