A local court in Jajpur has sentenced Gurucharan Behera, 32, to life imprisonment for murdering his father in 2020.
The District and Sessions Judge Amrut Ranjan Nanda delivered the verdict on Monday, concluding a five-year-long legal process.
Behera, a resident of Bachhala village under Bari police limits, was found guilty of killing his father following a domestic dispute on the night of September 29, 2020. The crime came to light after the elder son of the deceased filed a police complaint, leading to Behera’s arrest.
The court examined 17 witnesses and reviewed 18 documents before reaching its decision. In addition to life imprisonment, Behera was fined Rs 20,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
Public Prosecutor Samarendra Das confirmed the conviction and emphasized the importance of justice in cases of domestic violence and familial crimes.
