The Mumbai Traffic Control Room received a bomb threat on Friday via its official WhatsApp number, warning of multiple human bombs in vehicles across the city.
The message, claiming to originate from a Pakistan-based jihadi group, alleged that 14 terrorists had entered Mumbai and threatened blasts on the occasion of Anant Chaturdashi. Authorities have launched a probe to verify the threat’s authenticity.
The sender mentioned the use of RDX explosives, prompting immediate action by the police. Bomb disposal squads and dog units were deployed to inspect key areas, though no explosives were found at the time of reporting.
This incident comes amid heightened security concerns across India. Earlier, Patna Civil Court received a bomb threat via email on August 29, which triggered a full security sweep. Similarly, a high-security alert was issued across Bihar following intelligence inputs that three Pakistani terrorists from the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed group had entered the state via Nepal.
In Mumbai, previous threats have also targeted religious sites, including an ISKCON temple, leading to careful inspections to safeguard devotees and staff. Authorities continue to urge vigilance and have assured citizens that preventive measures are in place.
