The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a series of stringent measures to ensure a disciplined and culturally respectful Durga Puja celebration this year.

In a high-level preparatory meeting attended by the BMC Commissioner, Mayor, corporators, and officials from police, WATCO, and Fire Services, several key decisions were finalized.

One of the most notable directives is a complete ban on obscene dance performances at melody shows during the festivities. The civic body emphasized that such acts tarnish the cultural sanctity of the festival and will not be tolerated.

Additional regulations include:

  • No permission for fairs or Ravana effigy burning in areas lacking proper parking facilities.
  • Mandatory plastic-free celebrations across all puja venues.
  • Prohibition on decorative gates on main roads to avoid traffic disruptions.
  • Deployment of control rooms and ambulances at idol immersion points.
  • Police-led awareness campaigns in pandals against drug abuse.
  • Urgent repair of damaged electric poles and wires.
  • ₹5 lakh allocated per ward for pothole and road repairs.
  • Removal of stray dogs from puja venues for public safety.

These measures reflect BMC’s commitment to maintaining public order, safety, and environmental responsibility during one of the city’s most celebrated festivals.
