The Odisha Cabinet on Friday approved the allotment of 2.25 lakh houses for the weaker sections under the Antyodaya Gruha Yojana.

In the state, all the weaker sections of the society will be provided with pucca houses under the ‘Antodaya Gruha Yojana’. Pucca houses will be provided to eligible families who have not benefited from the existing housing scheme. The government will provide financial assistance of Rs 1.20 lakh for the construction of pucca houses with an area of 25 square meters.

The state cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has relaxed the rules of the Antodaya Gruha Yojana and approved the proposal to allocate 2.25 lakh pucca houses in the next 3 years. An outlay of Rs 7550 crore has been allocated for this scheme. The definition of a house has been simplified in the scheme and asbestos, tin and tile-roofed houses will not be considered as pucca houses. Roofs with only cement added to the walls will be considered as pucca houses.
The definition of a family has also been simplified and the meaning of a family in the scheme is understood to be husband, wife, dependent parents and children. The new families created due to this can benefit from the scheme.

Families affected by natural or man-made disasters, families displaced due to various government projects, families whose main earner is disabled, Forest Rights Act beneficiary families and eligible families who have not benefited from the existing housing scheme will be provided with concrete houses under this Antodaya Gruha Yojana.

Beneficiaries under this scheme will get financial assistance of Rs. 1.20 lakh for the construction of a concrete house of 25 square meters (excluding the toilet area). Beneficiaries of the Antodaya Gruha Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), Pradhan Mantri Jan Jati Adivasi Nyaya Mahabhiyan and other government rural housing schemes, who will complete the construction of their houses within 4 months and 6 months of receiving the first instalment, will be provided with incentive amount of Rs. 20,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively, according to a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office.
