Security personnel at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri thwarted an attempt to secretly record footage inside the temple premises using a hidden camera embedded in a pair of spectacles.
The accused, Arup Ray from Kolkata, was apprehended by the Jagannath Temple Police (JTP) after a vigilant officer noticed the suspicious eyewear.
According to Puri SP Prateek Singh, Ray was intercepted at the temple gate, where the hidden recording device was discovered. His mobile phone has been seized for forensic analysis, and a case has been registered under the Shree Jagannath Temple Act. The spectacles and related devices are being sent to the State Forensic Laboratory in Bhubaneswar for further examination.
The incident has sparked concerns over privacy and the sanctity of religious spaces. Authorities are investigating Ray’s motives and whether the act was part of a larger scheme. He remains in custody at Singhadwar police station as the probe continues.
