The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA), under Samagra Shiksha, has directed all schools and educational institutions in the state to celebrate National Sports Day on August 29, 2025.
The directive aligns with the Government of India’s initiative to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
OSEPA’s official notification, issued by the Additional Director (General), instructs District Education Officers (DEOs) and District Project Coordinators (DPCs) to ensure widespread participation. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and a list of suggested activities have been circulated to guide schools in organizing fitness-centric events.
Designated nodal officers will oversee the implementation, with schools expected to host engaging activities that promote teamwork, physical well-being, and the spirit of sportsmanship. Post-event documentation, including photos and videos, must be submitted to the Fit India portal or emailed to contact@fitindia.gov.in.
This initiative is part of the broader Fit India Movement, aiming to instill lifelong habits of health and fitness among students. OSEPA emphasized that the observance should not be symbolic but a meaningful celebration of active lifestyles and national pride.
