The Odisha Police’s CID Crime Branch has arrested two individuals from different states for their alleged involvement in cyber fraud, collectively swindling two investors out of a total of Rs 7.17 crore.
The arrested individuals are Bittu Kumar, 41, from Ludhiana, Punjab, and Chapalamadugu Sudheer Kumar, 33, from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
According to police, Bittu Kumar defrauded one victim of Rs 6.16 crore by promising high returns on investments in digital currency and exchange trading. He was arrested in Ludhiana and brought to Cuttack on a transit remand. He will be produced before the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) court in Berhampur.
In a separate case, Chapalamadugu Sudheer Kumar was arrested in Guntur for allegedly cheating another complainant of Rs 1.01 crore through a similar scheme. He has also been brought to Cuttack and will be produced before the SDJM court in Mayurbhanj.
The arrests were made following separate complaints filed by the victims at the cyber police station of the crime branch after they were unable to get their invested money back.
