A fatal road accident claimed two lives on Wednesday night when a speeding Bullet motorcycle lost control and crashed into a streetlight pole on Fire Station Road near Rental Colony.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bike, travelling at high speed, veered off course and struck the pole with immense force. The impact caused the vehicle to skid several meters, hitting a roadside tree and a parked car before coming to a halt.
Both the rider and pillion reportedly died on the spot due to the severity of the collision. Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the crash and alerted emergency services. Police arrived promptly and transported the bodies for post-mortem.
Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding as the primary cause, though authorities are probing further to rule out other factors. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.
This incident has reignited public concern over late-night speeding and the need for stricter traffic enforcement across Bhubaneswar’s arterial roads.
