New Delhi: The transport fleet of Indian Air Force(IAF) has been pressed into service for transporting medical personnel and equipment across the country to combat COVID.
The country is currently facing severe shortfall in medical-grade oxygen and this has put several hospitals across the country in a state of panic.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that the IAF transport fleet is supporting the fight against COVID-19 by airlifting medical personnel, critical equipment and medicines across the country.
Singh during a review meeting was briefed about the measures being taken by AFMS, DRDO, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) and other departments of the Ministry of Defence such as the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in providing aid to the civil administration in this critical juncture.
India is also planning on importing oxygen containers and equipment from foreign countries. The IAF will be pressed into service for airlifting oxygen containers and critical equipment and supplies from other nations.
