Vishakhapatnam: A troubling event has been reported at an engineering college in Andhra Pradesh, involving the alleged discovery of a hidden camera in the women’s hostel bathroom.
According to student claims, the camera covertly recorded videos of the students, which were subsequently leaked and sold to some students.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has called for an investigation. A case has been filed, and a final-year student is being held in relation to the incident.
The camera was located inside the Gudlavalleru College of Engineering campus hostel by a student, leading to a protest on Thursday evening where students voiced significant concerns about their safety and privacy.
During the protest, the police took into custody a final-year engineering student suspected of installing the camera. The student’s identity remains confidential as the investigation proceeds.
The college administration, however, denied finding any hidden cameras in the girls’ hostel, affirming their cooperation with the police investigation and vowing to enhance security measures on campus.
Police have inspected the laptops, mobile phones, and other devices of the suspect in front of students and staff, yet found no condemning evidence.
District Collector of Krishna, DK Balaji, and Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao visited the college amidst the ongoing protest.
