Odisha Vigilance on Thursday apprehended a Senior Revenue Assistant (SRA) from Vyasanagar Tahasil, Jajpur, while accepting a bribe of Rs 4500 for the demarcation of land.
The accused, Hemanta Kumar Terai, was caught red-handed taking the second and final instalment of an overall ₹5000 bribe from a complainant seeking a demarcation date for his plot. Earlier, Sri Terai had allegedly accepted ₹500 and persistently pressured the complainant for the remaining sum. Feeling helpless, the complainant alerted the Vigilance department, which set up a trap leading to the arrest.
Officials confirmed that the entire bribe amount of ₹4500 was recovered from Sri Terai’s exclusive possession and seized accordingly.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are underway at three premises linked to the accused to investigate disproportionate asset angles.
A case has been registered under Cuttack Vigilance PS Case No.20 dated 31.07.2025, invoking Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended by the P.C. (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation continues.
This development highlights Odisha Vigilance’s commitment to rooting out corruption from public institutions and upholding citizen rights.
