Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have arrested the truck driver responsible for the death of traffic constable Madhusudan Kirshani (42) in a hit-and-run incident on June 29.
The accused, identified as Prasanta Kumar Naik (28) from Gahiragadia in Cuttack district, was apprehended after three days on Tuesday morning from Rasulgarh in Bhubaneswar.
The tragic incident occurred at around 10.10 pm on Saturday, near the Jayadev Vihar flyover on NH-16. Constable Kirshani, a native of Malkangiri, was returning to his home near Khandagiri on his motorcycle after completing his duty at the Ram Mandir Square traffic post.
Following the accident, Naik fled the scene, prompting an investigation by the Nayapalli police. Authorities examined CCTV footage from the area to trace the vehicle involved in the mishap. The brown colour Eicher truck (OD05BP-9915) used in the incident was later seized by the police.
