Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Prashant Jagdev, the newly elected Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Khurda constituency, who was arrested last month for allegedly vandalising an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and misbehaving with polling officials.
Jagdev was earlier released on a three-day interim bail to attend several programmes including his oath-taking ceremony as MLA. As per reports, the lower court will set conditions for granting bail to the newly-elected Khordha MLA.
It is pertinent to mention here that Prashant Jagdev was arrested on the charges of toppling an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) during the third phase of polling held in Odisha on May 25.
Jagdev’s arrest had triggered a political row with BJP accusing the BJD of hatching a conspiracy against him.
Later, CCTV footage was released by the BJP leaders which cleared the air and pointed out that Jagdev was not involved in any such irregularities at the booth where he had gone to exercise his franchise along with his wife.
