The decomposed body of a missing farmer was recovered from the Nagavali River in Rayagada district after nearly five days of search.
The deceased has been identified as Areya Tadingi (60) of Adapatiguda village.
Areya went missing last Monday afternoon after heading to the river to bathe, but did not return home.
Local villagers initially discovered his clothes, slippers, and water bottle along the riverbank near his cotton field, prompting an extensive search. Despite combing through river stretches up to Kerada, strong currents hindered the rescue efforts.
Following multiple complaints lodged at Chandili and Rayagada police stations, local authorities intensified the search. On Friday afternoon, Areya’s decomposed body was spotted stuck against rocks beneath a hanging bridge.
The body was recovered by fire services and police personnel and has been sent to the district hospital for autopsy.
