Former Indian middle-order batter Veda Krishnamurthy has officially retired from professional cricket, marking the end of a vibrant 11-year career that inspired countless young cricketers across the nation.

The 32-year-old took to social media to announce her decision, sharing an emotional message: “From Kadur’s quiet lanes to wearing the India jersey with pride… I say goodbye to playing, but not to cricket. Ready to give back to the game that gave me a life.” Her heartfelt note thanked family, coaches, teammates, and fans for their enduring support.

Krishnamurthy, known for her aggressive batting style, made her international debut at just 18, scoring 51 runs against England. She went on to represent India in 124 matches, including 48 WODIs and 76 WT20Is. Her performance in the 2017 World Cup semifinal, where she smashed a blistering 70 against Australia, was a defining moment in her career.

Her last appearance in international cricket was at the 2020 T20 World Cup final. Most recently, she played for Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League. Krishnamurthy concluded her career with 829 ODI runs and 875 T20I runs, remembered not just for her scores but for her passion, resilience, and pride in representing India.

As she steps away from the pitch, the focus now shifts to how she might contribute off the field — mentoring future stars or influencing cricket development. The cricketing world awaits her next chapter with anticipation.
