In a thrilling match, Commonwealth Games gold medallist Lakshya Sen kept India’s singles campaign alive at the All England Badminton Championships. Sen delivered a remarkable performance, securing a stunning three-game victory over World No. 3 Anders Antonsen of Denmark to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament in Birmingham.
Sen, ranking World No. 18, started the match with a 1-3 record with Antonsen. But showcased his fighting spirit and fought back from a 2-8 deficit in the deciding game after losing the second game. He ultimately prevailed 24-22, 11-21, 21-14 over Antonsen, a three-time medalist at the World Championships, in a contentious second-round match.
However, it was a day of mixed fortunes for India as ace shuttler PV Sindhu bowed out of the tournament. Sindhu lost to reigning world champion An Se Young of Korea in the round of 16. This marked Sindhu’s seventh loss to An Se Young in as many matches.
