The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has forecast continuous rainfall across Odisha for the next five days, prompting the issuance of a yellow alert for 22 districts.
While most regions brace for heavy showers, eight coastal districts are expected to remain dry.
According to the IMD, districts in western, southern, and northern Odisha will experience intense rainfall, accompanied by surface winds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h. Southern Odisha is likely to receive the heaviest showers on Saturday.
The alert excludes coastal districts such as Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, and Bhadrak, which are predicted to remain dry during this period.
In addition to rainfall, the Met Centre has warned of thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas, urging residents to stay cautious and follow safety advisories.
Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, especially in flood-prone zones, to mitigate potential disruptions caused by the extended monsoon activity.
