Bhubaneswar: The two newly-elected BJD Rajya Sabha MPs Tuesday met Chief Minister and BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas.
Debashish Samantaray and Subhasish Khuntia, who were elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed, met the Chief Minister and took his blessings.
The BJD MPs also expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for reposing faith in them. They also met 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman V. Karthik Pandian.
BJP’s candidate Railways minister Ashawni Vaishnaw and two BJD candidates, Debashish Samantaray and Subhasish Khuntia, were on Tuesday elected uncontested to Rajya Sabha from Odisha.
Returning Officer for the Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha Abanikant Patnaik said there were only three candidates for as many Rajya Sabha seats and the nominations of all these three candidates were found valid on the last day of the withdrawal. Vaishnaw had filed his nomination as a BJP candidate backed by the support of the ruling BJD.
BJD supremo and Party President Naveen Patnaik had announced that his party will support the candidature of the Union Railways Minister for the Rajya Sabha seat in the greater interest of the state’s development in the Railways and Telecom sectors.
