Sambalpur: The Special Task Force officials with the help of Forest officials of Bamara Forest Division and Sambalpur District police have rescued a live pangolin in-between Bada-Dumbermunda- Nuapada Road
near the Railway crossing under Govindapur Police station in Sambalpur district on Wednesday.
Based on intelligence, the STF team and the Forest officials along with district police conducted a raid in that area and rescued a live pangolin. The officials also arrested two wildlife poachers.
The accused have been identified as Ichhadhar Naik (26) of Bhoipali village under Badagaon police limits in Sudargarh district and Sachin Kumar Pandey (28) of Hemgir in Sundargarh district.
During the search one Live Pangolin, a TATA TIAGO XTA 12 RTN Car along with other incriminating materials were recovered from their possession.
The accused persons could not produce any authority in support of possession of such live pangolin, for which they have been apprehended.
In this connection STF PS Case No.07 dated 14.02.2024 U/s 379/411/120(B) IPC r/w. Sec.51 of Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 has been registered and the accused persons will be forwarded to the Court of SDJM, Kuchinda.
The Live Pangolin has already been handed over to the Forest Range Officer, Bamara of Sambalpur district for safe custody. Further investigation is underway.
