The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall across Odisha till July 16, warning of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and strong winds in several parts of the state. Yellow alerts have been issued for multiple districts as widespread showers are expected to continue over the coming days.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, over half of Odisha will likely witness moderate to heavy rainfall, with wind speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph. The ongoing weather system is also expected to bring gusty conditions and possible low visibility in affected areas.

Yellow Alert for 24 Districts on July 13–14

A Yellow Alert has been sounded for 24 districts today and tomorrow, including coastal and interior regions such as Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. These areas could receive rainfall between 7 and 11 cm, with localised very heavy rain in some zones.

Alerts Extend to July 14 and 16

The IMD has extended Yellow Alerts to 22 districts for July 14 and July 16. Northern Odisha, particularly Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, may see intense rainfall and isolated extremely heavy downpours during this period.

Rainfall to Ease After July 17

The weather office expects the system to weaken after July 17, leading to reduced rainfall intensity across most of Odisha. However, light to moderate rain may persist in some southern and northern regions.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas are urged to remain cautious. The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to rough conditions. The state government and local authorities have been placed on alert to respond to any emergency situations.
