To improve the last-mile delivery of social welfare benefits, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will soon roll out a comprehensive ward-level survey aimed at identifying the urban poor and connecting them with state and central government schemes.
As part of the Odisha government’s ‘Sahajog’ programme, BMC field staff and corporators will visit residents across all 67 wards of Bhubaneswar, ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left out. The survey will enable on-the-spot enrolment for schemes including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), Ayushman Bharat health cards, ration cards under NFSA, Subhadra Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Labour and e-Shram cards, and the Madhubabu Pension Yojana.
The initiative, which began in March across 44 urban local bodies (ULBs) in eight districts, leverages the Sahajog App for real-time beneficiary tracking and scheme integration.
BMC officials emphasise that this proactive outreach will significantly strengthen implementation at the grassroots level and boost awareness among economically vulnerable communities in the city.
