Bhubaneswar: After remaining behind bars for around 14 months, Archana Nag, prime accused in the much-hyped sextortion case walked out of Jharpara Jail in Bhubaneswar here, on Tuesday.
Immediately after her release, she went to a law college to appear for her law examination, for which she had prepared inside the prison.
“I am not the person who will keep mum against injustice. I am neither hiding nor leaving the state. I will fight till the end. The court will take action against all persons involved in the case,” Nag told reporters after coming out of jail.
“I am a law student and abide by the law. Now, the case is sub-judice with the high court and I have faith in the court. I will deposit all evidence and documents before the court,” she added.
The Orissa High Court had on December 5 granted her bail in an ED case registered against her, paving the way for her release from prison. The court had earlier granted her bail in two other cases filed against her by the Commissionerate Police.
The High Court, however, imposed certain conditions while granting bail to Nag. According to the conditions, she cannot comment on the case against her and cooperate with the investigation.
Archana has already been granted bail in 2 cases. On April 11, the court granted her bail in the Nayapalli police station case and on August 2, she was granted bail in the Khandagiri police station case.
Archana Nag was accused of running a sextortion racket and earned a huge cache of money by blackmailing many bigwigs. Her husband Jagabandhu was also accused of assisting her in the crime. After such allegations, the police arrested both the couple.
Later, their accomplice Khageswar was also arrested. ED is investigating the case. Due to non-accounting of assets, ED also seized the couple’s luxurious house including Khageswar’s house. All three accused, are now lodged in Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar.
